Our recruitment process

Start your fostering journey at Foster with Bury. With a wide array of experience in providing foster care services, we understand that the decision to foster is a huge step, which is why we provide expert advice and support throughout the recruiting process. On average, it takes up to 6 months to become an approved foster carer, but we will be with you every step of the way. Get in touch today to arrange an initial appointment.

What does the process involve?

The first stage is to arrange an Initial Home Visit. The visit will take place in your home; it’s an informal visit to discuss Fostering in more detail and gives us an opportunity to meet you, to find out more about your reasons for considering fostering and your previous experience. We will also discuss your housing space and availability. The visit also gives you the opportunity to find out about the process in more detail and to ask any questions you may have. The Initial Home Visit usually takes between 1 – 1½ hours.
Once you are ready to start your journey, we will need to undertake ID, police, and medical checks, and we will also require references. This 6-month process is thorough and transparent to ensure that all carers are suitably prepared for the responsibility of fostering.

We offer a comprehensive annual training programme, carers are linked to an experienced “buddy” for peer support and we support birth children within Fostering households with a bespoke group as well as social events during the year.
